name to The Canadian Bank of Commerce and it opened for business under
that name in 1867. |

| As part of a recent trading floor refurbishment,
CIBC World Markets decided to upgrade its existing 21" CRTs to
LCDs, which the Company recognised would provide it with a more reliable
and ergonomic solution. When the team responsible for the refurbishment
project began evaluating the LCD options available, it became clear
that it was not a straight forward purchasing decision and numerous
options were available in the market. |

The
fact that EIZO's panels had SlimEdge bezels, enabled traders to multi-tile
their panels and the small footprint meant that more space was now
available on each of the users' desks. The LCDs being so much lighter
meant that the replacement process was that much quicker and easier.
EIZO pride themselves on providing service second to none. EIZO's
representatives visited the CIBC offices on numerous occasions to
demonstrate clearly the benefits of choosing an EIZO product over
the competition as well as being on hand to answer any queries. "The
service provided by EIZO was excellent. Our Account Manager was great
in getting us the information we required and explaining which products
would be more suited to our applications", explained Orele Pluck,
Dealing Floor Manager. |
| |
| "The Product Specialist then went through the
products thoroughly with our IT Support team ensuring they were fully
trained on all of the product's features. His technical and product
knowledge made our end choice so much easier!" |

The
employees were offered the opportunity of having an LCD on their desk
to see for themselves the difference from their CRT. Soon it was obvious
from the feedback LCDs were a winner. "Suddenly no-one was complaining
about eyestrain and people seemed to be generally happier. They certainly
did not want to go back to their old CRT monitors!", said Orele.
"Our offices look over the Thames and so reflection on the screen
can be a problem. With LCD monitors that is no longer an issue".
Having an LCD on the user's desk seemed to increase productivity too.
"Because people are happy to be looking at a stylish screen,
they seem to be keener to get on with their work", said Orele.
"Once our Corporate Services Department were made aware of the
ergonomic benefits of LCDs over CRTs they were soon encouraging us!"
Such benefits included decrease in number of eye sight complaints,
as well as headaches caused by flickers that are visible on CRT monitors. |
| |
| Other benefits of LCD over CRTs also soon became
obvious. The fact that LCDs are that much lighter than CRTs made the
installation quicker and so much easier. "Our old CRTs were so
heavy. Because we had been trained by EIZO how to set up and configure
the monitors the implementation went ahead with no issues at all.
The fact that we didn't experience a single DOA meant the installation
was over in no time". |
| |
| So out of all the manufacturers why was it that EIZO
was the preferred choice? |
| |
| "When it came to choosing the LCD brand, the
choice was easy. EIZO are known to be in the top tier for monitors.
The training and information provided was a great help and aesthetically,
the EIZO LCDs were more pleasing to the eye than the other monitors
we looked at. Another factor was the fact the EIZO LCDs are digital
which means we are future proofing future IT purchases. With prices
of LCDs where they are today it makes economic sense to only purchase
LCD, plus the fact that the cost of running them in the long term
is so much cheaper than a CRT. The total cost of ownership speaks
for itself, for example, lower electricity and air conditioning costs.
Factors such as these and others mean we will only be buying EIZO
in the future" Orele stated. |
