Color Matching between Your Monitor and Prints

3. Adjusting the Display and Retouching Software

Color management, including correctly configuring display and retouch settings, is crucial for obtaining an optimal match between images onscreen and colors output from a printer. This section will introduce the process of confirming the recommended settings in Adobe Photoshop CS4, software widely used to confirm the display of digital images captured with digital single-lens reflex cameras. The section will also cover setting procedures up to the start of printing. Here, we will introduce color matching methods using the printer driver.

Contact the software manufacturer directly regarding settings and usage methods not described here, as well as for matters regarding settings and usage of software applications.

(Reference 1) Selecting the Printer

These documents use the EPSON R2400 UltraChrome K3 ink printer as an example of color matching for the following reasons:

  • It uses a pigmented ink that exhibits little change in color from directly after printing to ink stabilization (dry print).
  • An included printing mode allows accurate printing of sRGB images.
  • Color errors between the actual printer and printer drivers used for color conversion are minimal.

We cannot answer questions regarding other printers. Please contact the manufacturers directly.
